Mid October 2022 - this email is all about robots
Hi Everyone,
I just finished August Kitko and the Mechas from Space by Alex White. The book is about as serious as the title implies and it includes big, huge, robots (who are not robots in disguise).
In the book, the robots on the side of humanity need a human to help them navigate the entirety of human knowledge and experience. And it’s only musicians who are able to do this, creating a very interesting, even fun, vibe to the story.
I love a robot character and they are everywhere—Star Trek, Lost in Space, Battlestar Galactica, Terminator, even WALL-E, and the list could go on. The ‘droids’ in Star Wars amuse me (by far my favourite droid is K-2SO followed by IG-11).
Who is your favourite fictional robot? (as an aside, you can comment on these emails)
In real life, the Boston Dynamic dog-like robots creep me out, mostly because there is something sinister about them. But, I expect a vacuuming robot will make an appearance in my home in the near future.
Cardboard Robots
I stumbled upon these delightful robots recently:
They’re by Greg Olijnyk and I think they are fabulous (there’s even more wonderful ones here). In my perfect future, a working robot like one of these with the snark of K-2SO will be brining me my morning coffee.
Why I’ve got robots on my mind
The hero of my latest novel has a robot companion—who turned out to be a very fun character to write, as he has elements of Pinocchio with the heart of Tinman out of The Wizard of Oz. The book is done, I have a cover, all it needs is some basic formatting and it’ll be ready to go (although I still need to do the absolutely most difficult part, which is writing the book description).
Chapters of Hope is the Thing With Feathers will begin showing up on the Armchair Alien Substack in January 2023 and will be available in book form March 2023.
Cheers,
Jeannette
Here are a couple of books by fell indie authors worth checking out:
When Nigel gets chucked off a dam, he thinks his time is up.
Vivian – an alien from an ancient race that uses Earth’s deep oceans as a retirement home – rescues him and convinces him to join the Consensus.
Now all he has to do is give up his life on Earth.
But he can’t abandon his birth planet when he learns that the Menace plans to attack. To stop the apocalypse, he must find his high school crush, rescue the daughter he never knew he had, and make the case to the Consensus that humanity is worth saving.
It would be a lot easier if he didn’t have amnesia.
If you like found family, unlikely heroes, and unique alien technology, you’ll love Eclipsing the Aurora, the latest sci-fi adventure from author Peter J. Foote.
War, deceit, and love intertwine in the first six Tales From The Sehnsucht Series.
Within this anthology, you'll find six tales of love and hate, loyalty and treason, failure and triumph; science fiction and fantasy, the dramatic and the lighthearted from alien soldiers, desperate teachers, strange bedfellows, and more. And in the background a war of all against all. Who will survive?
