Hi Everyone,
I’ve been reading Floating Hotel by Grace Curtis. I’m not yet done the book and I already want to dust off my resume and apply to work on the Grand Abeona Hotel (a fancy space ship hotel touring the galaxy).
This isn’t the first science fiction world I’ve wanted to step into. And it turns out this kind of cozy sci-fi is taking off. Here’s a great article about the genre a friend passed my way.
It’s never the utopian worlds that I find attractive. If a world is perfect, I always assume something dark is going on under the surface (because it usually is).
I go for the well worn in places, that are far from perfect but they are comfortable, where the people truly care for each other.
Are you a reader of cozy sci-fi? Do you have any books to suggest?
Something Awesome - The Exoplanet Zoo
I stumbled upon the above info graphic of colour sorted exoplanets by Martin Vargic and it is awesome.
Writing Update
My brain space has been taken up by The Lost Star Chart kickstarter that is currently running (and already at 225% funded!!!). It’s a book that might make the definition of cozy, or at least it’s on the edge of it.
But, I did sit down to write a short story. Normally short stories are really hard for me to write. For what ever reason, my ideas tend to be novel length. But this story just poured out of me in just a couple of writing sessions—best of all, it’s a super fun adventure. I’ll be using it as a stretch goal (which is already unlocked) for the kickstarter.
Cheers,
Jeannette

I have been saying for some time what I write is cozy SF. Good to see the category is finally being recognised! (I have five books out).
