Hi Everyone,
I found the solar system chart above from the website of the Royal Museums of Greenwich. I’ve been thinking a lot about star charts recently (for navigation not astronomy) and I’ll get to why below. But first my tale of woe…
Computer issues have made my life complicated lately. My computer was making a weird clicking that continued even when it was supposedly asleep. Its a newish Mac (it’s about 4 month old), still under warranty, so I made two back-ups and took it into the shop a couple of weekends ago. At the time I was promised to have it back within two days—that didn’t happen.
Turns out they had to replace most of my computer’s guts (the technician was kind enough to call me twice to make sure I had made a back-up—which I had). I finally was able to pick-up my machine last weekend. Since it is basically a new computer now, it took a while to get it set up again how I like it. So far, it’s working fine.
This long tale of computer woes is why I didn’t manage to get out an April fools newsletter—it would have been a better story if it had involved alien invasions or time travellers, but nope, just ordinary computer issues.
Something Awesome
A friend is running a kickstarter for her next book (I think it starts in May). The book looks awesome!
A Second Awesome Thing
I love how moody this library looks, like it could be forgotten tomes in the basement of some university’s library. It’s fantastic—and it’s tiny. Everything has been handmade by Tomas Mayer from scratch.
Writing Update
This round of The Lost Star Chart edits is coming together nicely. I’m at the stage where the story is sorted and now I get to add the tiny details that brings things to life—which is something I really enjoy.
I’ve also commissioned an artist to produce the ‘lost star chart’ — which is incredibly exciting (and will go in physical copies of the final book, and maybe the ebooks as well if I can make it work).
If you want to play around with generating your own star chart, check this out.
Finally, did I mention that I’ve drafted the sequel to Hope is the Thing With Feathers?Even at this stage it’s shaping up to be fantastic.
Cheers,
Jeannette
