all the pretty flowers
The sun came out long enough last weekend for an afternoon escape into the local woods. Here are some of the spring flowers spotted along the way. All the photos were taken with my iphone, which is an older version and not great at focusing.
The flower above is redwood violet (Viola sempervirens). These tiny yellow flowers were in the forest where I grew up, as a result, every time I see one I get quite nostalgic.
Candy flower, also called pink purslane (Claytonia sibirica)
Western fairy-slipper (Calypso bulbosa occidentalis) - a super pretty little orchid!
Henderson's shooting star (Primula hendersonii)
Camas (it's blooming everywhere right now)
Shortspur seablush -- probably (Plectritis congesta)
Checker lily (Fritillaria affinis) - I definitely didn't climb up a cliff to take a photo of this pretty flower.
Not a pretty flower -- but it's a pretty fantastic lichen. I think it's candy lichen (Icmadophila ericetrum) and it also seems to be called fairy barf.
